Children

The Brook Hospital – Dupont offers programs for children, ages 3-12, who are experiencing problems with psychiatric illnesses and/or emotional problems. Through our multidisciplinary team approach, we provide the highest level of direct patient care that is possible, which includes physical, social, spiritual, medical and psychotherapeutic treatment interventions.

What you can expect:

Before admission to any of the Children programs, patients receive a comprehensive assessment of their mental, physical, and spiritual needs to determine the most appropriate level of care. The treatment team, led by the attending psychiatrist, develops an individual treatment plan for each patient and meets regularly to review each patient’s progress and to update treatment goals. Family members are also invited to participate in treatment team and family sessions.

Adhering to Kentucky state law, we require that all school age patients to continue their education while in treatment. Jefferson County Public Schools provides this service for our patients in our on-site classrooms.

The length of stay varies based on the individual needs of the patient. Every patient that is admitted into one of our programs has an individualized treatment plan. Length of stay is determined by a multidisciplinary team that includes the physician and the patient.

Levels of Care

  • Psychiatric Inpatient
  • Extended Care
  • Psychiatric Partial Hospitalization
  • Psychiatric Intensive Outpatient

Treatment & Discharge Planning

The Brook Hospitals recognize that recovery and healing is a lifelong process and therefore discharge planning begins upon admission. The treatment team works closely with each patient to set realistic goals for continuing care following treatment and makes available information or referral for further services as necessary.

Following completion of the inpatient program, an appropriate referral is made for the patient to continue treatment in the least restrictive level of care possible (i.e., partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, outpatient, aftercare program). The level of care recommended is determined by the individual needs of the patient.
